+ ALI AKAY, CHIEF INVESTMENT OFFICER
Ali Akay is an investment management professional with significant experience in operating a hedge fund management business. He founded Carrhae Capital in 2011 following three years in the London office as a Partner of SAC Global Investors where he managed the emerging market equities long/short portfolio and was a member of the SAC Global Investment Committee. From 2003 to 2008, Ali worked at HBK Investments, a global hedge fund management firm, where he was initially a senior analyst focused on emerging market investments in the New York office, then went on to found HBK’s Istanbul office in February 2008, and finally moved to London where he managed HBK’s emerging market equities long/short portfolio. From 2001 to 2003, he focused on Latin American investments as an Associate in the Principal Strategies Group at Goldman Sachs, having begun his career at McKinsey & Company as a business analyst in the corporate finance and strategy practice in New York. Ali holds a BS in Economics and a BA in German Literature and International Studies from Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude, and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Beta Gamma Sigma fraternities.
+ ADRIAN HEADON, MANAGING PARTNER & CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
Adrian Headon joined Carrhae Capital in 2011. Prior to joining Carrhae he held the position of Chief Financial and Operating Officer at Millgate Capital Inc. in New York, and previously he was an Executive Director at Morgan Stanley Fund Services in London, where he spent two years helping to grow the European business. Adrian brings with him a wealth of experience, having previously held CFO positions both at Cairn Capital Group and Kedge Capital Group and from 1989 to 1993, he worked at KPMG. Adrian is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales and holds a degree in Business Economics and Accounting from Southampton University.
+ AZIZ FAQIR, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Aziz Faqir is a seasoned financial professional who has extensive experience within Emerging Markets accumulated at bulge bracket investment banks, hedge funds, as well as private equity investment experience. His relationship with Carrhae Capital and its founding team goes back to the firm's inception, where he supported the firm in raising its initial capital when he was at Goldman Sachs. Prior to joining Carrhae Capital in 2019, Aziz was Managing Partner for Lakson Investments Private Equity Fund, which focussed on healthcare investments in Pakistan. During his time at Lakson Investments he also served as CEO of the fund’s first portfolio company, OMI Hospital. From 2010 to 2016, Aziz was at Goldman Sachs, where he was responsible for the coverage of hedge fund allocators across the UK and Middle East as well as Prime Brokerage sales for the Middle East region. Aziz graduated from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 2002 and began his career in the Project Finance and Debt Capital Markets division at Standard Chartered Bank, in Pakistan. In 2004, he was recruited by ABN AMRO Bank N.V. in London to join the Project Finance division and subsequently in 2007, Aziz joined the Emerging Markets team at Merrill Lynch International. Between 2008 and 2010, Aziz was Partner and Head of Research at Valiance Advisors LLP, a US $230M boutique, special situations fund that invested across the capital structure and is based in London.
+ PLAMEN DOKOV, HEAD OF RESEARCH
Prior to joining Carrhae, Plamen was a Senior Analyst at SAC Global Investors working with Ali Akay. His main focus there was the energy sector within emerging markets. Prior to that Plamen was an Associate with Morgan Stanley Principal Strategies group, covering pan-European special situations. Previously he spent 3 years as an Analyst at Lazard and Morgan Stanley focusing on generalist M&A practices. Plamen is a CFA Charterholder and holds a BA in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Sofia in Bulgaria.
+ RODSON HERINGER, SENIOR ANALYST
Rodson joined Carrhae in February 2017. Prior to Carrhae, Rodson was a partner at Perfin Investimentos, a long / short equity fund in Sao Paulo, where he covered a variety of sectors. Rodson started his career at Itau Unibanco working alongside the proprietary trade desk. Rodson is a CFA Charterholder and holds a Master’s Degree in Finance and Economics from Fundacao Getulio Vargas and a B.Eng. in Electrical Engineering from University of Sao Paulo, both in Brazil.
+ ANKIT SURI, ANALYST
Ankit Suri joined Carrhae Capital in June 2018. Prior to Carrhae Capital, Ankit worked for 5 years at the investment banking division of J.P. Morgan Cazenove, based in London and Mumbai previously, where he focused on the technology, media and telecom sectors. Ankit received his MBA degree from the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode, India, after completing his Bachelor of Arts in Economics degree from Delhi University, India.
+ ADRIAN SUNTER, TRADER
Adrian has been at Carrhae since its inception in 2011. Before joining Carrhae, he was Head of Operations at Millgate Capital Inc. in both London and New York. Adrian began his career at E*TRADE Financial where he spent 6 years working learning all sides of the business by working in a variety of roles including Trading and Operations. He holds a BSW from Virginia Commonwealth University.
+ ROD GRAHAM, TRADER
Prior to joining Carrhae in March 2016, Rod spent 20 years working as a Sales Trader in Emerging Markets at various Investment Banks including Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank. Rod started his career in Emerging Markets by working on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange as a floor broker. Over his career, Rod has covered the CEEMEA and Asian markets. He holds a MA(Hons) in Political Economics and Management Studies from The University of Glasgow.
+ SAOIRSE VEREKER, HEAD OF OPERATIONS
Saoirse worked at HSBC as a Business process trainer for 3 years in Dublin and New York. She moved to London with Morgan Stanley Fund Services as a Client Service Manager for 5 years. Then joined Carrhae in 2012. Saoirse holds a Master in Economics from University College Cork.
